2026 Route & Rider Guide

We're so excited to welcome you to the beautiful back roads of Tamworth, New Hampshire.  Whether you're here to chase a personal best, ride with friends, meet new people, or simply enjoy a day on some of New England's finest gravel, we're glad you're joining us.

At its heart, the Ice Cream Tamwich is a community event. It's a celebration of the places we ride, the people we ride with, and the simple joy of spending a day outside on two wheels. While there are timed enduro segments for riders who want to test themselves, this is first and foremost a ride—not a race. Take in the views. Cheer each other on. Stop to help a fellow rider if they need it. Share snacks, swap stories, and don't forget to save room for ice cream at the finish.

This event was created by local riders, powered by volunteers, and made possible by the community of Tamworth. Every registration helps support local organizations, making this a chance to give back while doing what we love.

The Ice Cream Tamwich is not a race and there are no prizes for the overall fastest finisher.  It is a gravel enduro format, with three timed segments should you choose to compete.  There will be a podium for the overall shortest time for all segments.

All segment timing will be handled through Strava.  If you want to be considered for the podium, you will need to download the Strava app (a free account will work).  Riders will also be asked to join the Ice Cream Tamwich Club at the following link:  Ice Cream Tamwich Strava Club.

All riders will be expected to navigate the course on their own through a navigation app/device/phone or with a cue sheet.  Organizers will due their best to mark all turns, however, there is no guarantee these markings will be available throughout the event.

One Scoop Ride With GPS

Two Scoops RIde WIth GPS

There will be three segmens on Great Hill Road, Hemenway State Forest, and Cleveland Hill Road.  Strava segments will be released prior to the event.  Segments will be the same for 1 and 2 scoop events and there will only be one podium (Male, Female, and Gender Diverse categories).  Each segment will have three signs notifying the segment is ahead, approximate segment start, and approximate segment end.

In order to be considered for the podium, you must be back to the Rec Field by 1500 EDT.  All riders must be off the course by 1600 EDT.  Any rider participating in the two scoop event that does not reach the Fowler's Mill turn on 113A by 1330 EDT, will be asked to bypass the Northeast Loop and proceed on 113A and turn right into Hemenway State Forest at the Aid Station.  If you are on the course after 1600 EDT, the sweep vehicle will pull you from the course and return you to the start/finish. 

1. Have fun. Be safe. Ride smart.

2. Riders must wear a helmet at ALL times.

3. ALL ROADS WILL BE OPEN TO TRAFFIC. Riders must always stay to the right, never ride more than two abreast and stop at all stop signs. Be courteous and respectful of drivers and the roads that this event is privileged to use. Expect the unexpected, including animals, walkers and other cyclists traveling in the same or opposite direction as you.  Some roads are narrow so please ride with caution.

4. Riders shall not impede the normal and reasonable movement of traffic. Riders are expected to stay to the right even on dirt roads and ride two abreast (and never more than two abreast) only where it is safe to do so.  You will be directed to ride single file on certain sections of road.  Please obey those instructions.

5. Course marshals may stop, slow and direct riders, but will NOT DIRECT CAR TRAFFIC. If a marshal tells you to stop: STOP

6. Flaggers will be available at two turns early on in the race.  These turns include the Left from Tamworth Road onto Hollow Hill just under 1 mile from the start and turning from Cleveland Hill Road onto Great Hill Road at approximately 3 miles.

7. Pedal-assisted e-bikes are allowed, however riders using e-bikes will not be eligible for the gravel enduro podium.

8. Respect the land you’re riding on and the landowners who live along these roads. Talk quietly, don’t litter, pick up trash if you see it and use the porta-potties at the aid stations and especially at the event venue!

9. Riders must be prepared to deal with their own mechanical issues. The Aid Station will have some supplies and a mechanic available, but participants should plan to be self-sufficient.

10. Unless a marshal or other volunteer directs you otherwise, stay on the course. Cell phone service is spotty—following the course and the directions of course marshals is the best way to return to the event venue.

11. The organizers of The Ice Cream Tamwich reserve the right to make any last-minute course/timing changes as deemed necessary. The ride will take place rain or shine. In the event of dangerous weather, the race may be delayed, shortened, postponed or canceled without a refund.

12. In the event of an emergency, call 911.  If you cannot find cell service, head to the nearest aid station or Marshall, bearing in mind it may be behind you.
